• Marvel Comics began in 1939 in New York, and was then known as Timely Comics. Stan Lee became Editor-In-Chief when he was 18 years old, and held the position for 31 years.
• Marvel owned the publishing rights to the word "zombie" for over 20 years, but gave them up in 1996 when it became to difficult to enforce.
• Marvel is the home of the first openly gay superhero (Northstar, 1992) and the first black superhero to have his own comic book (Luke Cage, 1972.) Incidentally, actor Nicolas Cage took his stage name from Luke Cage.
